Alessandro Avataneo
Alessandro Avataneo is an author, director, and film and theater producer with international experience spanning over thirty countries. His academic background includes a degree in International Relations and master's degrees in Storytelling, Performing Arts, and Digital Entertainment. Working and experimenting across a wide range of media, including film, documentaries, theater, installations, video games, and podcasts, he has collaborated with prestigious organizations such as UNESCO, Berlinale, Tate Gallery, Museo Egizio, and RAI, as well as with publishers like Mondadori and Rizzoli. Among his notable works are Una Storia delle Colline (2009), Il Grande Oz (2014), Poema Circular (2014), Leghorn (2017), and Todo Cambia (2015), a national campaign created for the United Nations Human Rights Day. Alessandro has also worked with prominent Italian theaters, developing a unique interdisciplinary approach that combines dramaturgy, cinema, and narrative design. Since 2012, he has taught filmmaking, worldbuilding, and narrative design at institutions including Scuola Holden, the Museum of Cinema in Turin, TorinoFilmLab, RedSeaLodge in Jeddah, The European Institute of Design and The European Association of Creative Writing Programmes. These two decades of teaching and research culminated in his book The Art of Storytelling (2024). A strategic consultant for governments and companies, Alessandro develops training programs and corporate storytelling that merge creativity, technology, and social impact. He directed the installations for the 2010 Architecture Biennale in Maastricht and curated the candidacy dossier for Maastricht as the European Capital of Culture. He is the author of The Great Atlas of Italian Wines (Rizzoli, 2023) and was honored with the title of Minister for Wine of the Kingdom of Elgaland-Vargaland. Passionate about AI, he explores its potential to harmonize with human creativity, focusing on its capacity to innovate and inspire. With his sister Giulia, he created the film podcast The Cinematic Experience, and they both continue to run Hypercritic, of which he is the founder.
